Lagatta Bakery opened last summer and offers quality pastries, croissants, stuffed pastries, muffins, coffee, drinks and more, drawing people from Hamburg and beyond to their doors. Co-owners Andrea Restrepo and Laura Velez, originally from Colombia, chose Lagatta for their business name as a symbol of women’s empowerment and strength. Andrea used to drive through Hamburg often and chose Hamburg to open their store front business. Both owners came from different career backgrounds and found joy in baking top quality goods. Together they merged their love for food and creativity into something truly special. Andrea writes, “Lagatta is more than just a bakery — it’s a reflection of who we are as women, artists, and dreamers.”
At age 16, Andrea left Colombia to move to the United States. She knew early on that she wanted to own her own business and worked hard to make it happen for herself and her two children. She started out working in Italian restaurants, and developed a love for cooking. However her training in the culinary world started with her mother, who was a chef. Andrea is self-taught, and learned from years of experience testing her own recipes. “Everything I know, I’ve learned on my own — testing recipes, mixing flours, failing, adjusting, and trying again until I got it just right…That journey of learning and resilience led me to create a line of pastries that are now at the heart of my bakery,” she writes. If you have ever been to Lagatta Bakery, then you know she certainly got the recipe right! You will be hard pressed to find pastries and baked goods as tasty, flaky, and unique as at Lagatta Bakery!
